Dateline NBC

On Sunday, January 5th, 2014 at 7pm NBC's Dateline will air "Breathless," an investigation of the link between poverty and childhood asthma. Charged with the task of telling the characters’ story through song, Dateline invited K-SISE to write and produce the music for the episode. The theme song, “I Can’t Breathe”, explores the struggles families face in impoverished communities, and the connection to childhood asthma.

Lines like: “It’s cracks in the buildings, that bring the nasty roaches in/ It’s leaks that cause mold, secondhand smoke that spin/ Coughing to asthma, where breath becomes gold/ Defibrillate the face to make the lungs unfold”, highlight the specific and unique challenges people face in poverty-stricken areas.

K-SISE’s music uses provocative words, imagery and style to tell a story about the world as he sees and experiences it.  Growing up in Hollis, Queens, asthma was a problem for many of his friends and family, making the creative partnership hit close to home.

Dateline released the “Breathless” sneak peek video, featuring “I Can’t Breathe” written and produced by K-SISE, helping set the stage for the full episode, as well as the music video for the song.
